What is Ashiatsu?

Ashiatsu is a deep-tissue massage, where the therapist uses their feet instead of hands, to apply deep, therapeutic pressure. It is excellent for those who are looking for pre- or post-athletic event bodywork. It lengthens and loosens tissues for faster recovery and can release chronic holding patterns, while stimulating the lymphatic and parasympathetic nervous systems. It opens up disk space in the back and relieves chronic pain for spinal nerves and connective tissue. Because of this type of work, it aids the body's healing response, helping to return to homeostasis.

Is it right for me?

Your safety is top priority, so let's discuss when Ashiatsu may not be safe for you to receive. If you have any of the following conditions, it may not be appropriate for you to receive this type of work:

  • If you are a woman that is pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • If you’ve had breast implants within nine months

  • If you’ve had recent eye procedures/Lasik surgery within 72 hours

  • If you have a history of Tuberculosis, thrombosis, aneurysm, or ongoing kidney disorders.

  • If you are currently going through radiation therapy treatments.

  • If you’ve had any knee, hip, spine, shoulder, or major joint surgeries within 6 weeks

  • If you have phlebitis or cellulitis

  • Any Autoimmune Disorders (ie. lupus, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis or Lyme disease)

  • If you are currently taking any blood thinners, pain killers, or muscle relaxants

  • If you have been on a plane flight longer than 6 hours within the last 24 hours prior to your massage appointment.

  • If you are sick (especially if you are recovering from COVID-19).

  • If you are under 18 years old.

The following situations do weigh heavily on your massage, but may not result in having to reschedule your appointment. These conditions do determine the plan of action I take during your session.
